Standing Odalisque Reflected in a Mirror, 1923
The flowing lines of Matisse’s Odalisque contrast greatly with the linear patterns filling the room. Her curves are reflected by the mirror she is leaning against creating a continuous circle in the center of the composition. Matisse has simplified his form to essential lines, her face delicately delineated with tapering slashes of black paint.
