La Robe Lamée
This exotically clothed figure sits elegantly in a chair with her striped robe and left hand cascading carelessly from the arms. Her lower body has dissipated into a few faded strokes at the bottom right so she appears to float effervescently, in the center of the paper. Her eyes are dark and powerful and command the viewer’s attention. The inspiration for her exotic garb may have come to Matisse during his trips to Morocco in 1912-13.
