Interior with Dog, 1934
The quiet scene of Interior with Dog is enlivened by the expressive patterns and bright colors characteristic of Matisse’s Fauvist style. The simple forms of the green leaves pop out from the cool lavender background, the vibrancy is enhanced by the visible energy of the artist’s brushstroke. As the eye falls from the green leaves and pops of yellow on the tapestry they come across the form of a sleeping dog. The perfect simplicity of the dog’s form is emphasized by the restful grey coloring aginst the complex plaid of the pillow beneath.
